Cerec Same Day Crowns
Dental crowns help to preserve natural teeth that have broken or weakened due to tooth decay, infection, trauma to the mouth, and other oral health conditions. As recently as just a few years ago, patients had to attend two or three appointments, wear a temporary crown, and have a permanent crown installed two to three weeks later. CEREC Same Day Crowns change all that.
Get Your Dental Crown in a Single Appointment
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it includes several parts that make it possible to create and place your dental crown in a single appointment. No dental laboratory is necessary. CEREC relies on CAD technology, which stands for computer-aided design.
Your dentist takes images of your gums and teeth and sends them to a computer when using CEREC to create a new crown. The computer then transmits it to an onsite milling machine that manufactures the crown, which typically takes between 15 and 45 minutes.
What to Expect
Whether a person or machine crafted your new dental crown, the process of preparing for and receiving it is the same. First, our dentist numbs the tooth and the gums surrounding it. After ensuring that you are comfortable, the next step is for our dentist to remove tooth structure and/or decay to make way for the crown.
Bonding material is then applied to your tooth to hold the new crown in place. Since your tooth needs to be dry for this procedure, our dentist or a hygienist places a dental dam in your mouth at the start of the appointment to keep saliva off the tooth. Our dentist shines a light on the tooth for the next step to help the bonding material set. Our dentist then checks the fit of the new crown and trims any excess dental glue.
